Songs all Bellydancers should know!
Enjoy this Spotify Playlist of the Classic Arabic Songs all Bellydancers should know! The first track of each song title is the original version or an early version and the second is the "bellydance" version (not all because Spotify does not have ALL the songs....) Many of the songs are by Om or Umm Kalthoum (or Kalsoum), Farid Al Atrache (or El Atrash), and Abdel Halim Hafez. These long songs were not meant to be danced to, except during the prelude and interlude.
Since Arabic to English is a phonetic translation, there are many variations on how a song can be spelled. When searching for songs, you have to be creative in the spelling to find all the versions! For instance- Enta Omri can also be Inta, Anta or Anto and Omri can be Umri or sometimes just all one word-Entomri. Here is a Text Document of the songs along with title translation and some of the composers: Arabic Bellydance Classics This is just one of many lists of the "need to know songs" and all are accurate. It is just each dancers prerogative which songs they feel should be represented. Also, this playlist is just Arabic songs. Turkish Classics and American Vintage classics have their own playlists! (Coming Soon) ENJOY! |
